via Mark,

Mark Doherty from adobe has released a set of components on his blog which have been design by Matt snow & team at Adobe mobile UI design.
What will you get from them:
* Discover how to create low memory yet rich components
* List, Slider, Tile, NavModel and Gapper components for Flash Lite 2.x/3.x
* Carousel, Menu, Story and scroll bars in Flash Lite 1.1
* Key Handling for Flash Lite 1.1 and Flash Lite 2.x/3.x
* Image Handling, loading and unloading etc (TileMenu)
* Creating device UI and multi-screen applications (NavModel)
I have used some of these in one of my recent projects (streamMobile) and they are a great way to implement some great looking navigation very quickly. The are also reasonably easy to customize graphically and also in implementation.
You can get them from here . enjoy!

Via bill,

Over the weekend Verizon Wireless launched “Dashboard” which is their branded version of Adobe Flash Cast.
If you’re a Flash, Flash Lite or web developer and interested in creating Flash Cast channels for “Dashboard” which is the Verizon Wireless version of Adobe Flash Cast you can now get started.
Dashboard will provide an ecosystem for Verizon Wireless consumers to enjoy rich and interactive services by leveraging the proven content authoring tools and workflow that Flash developers are familiar with. The wide range of experiences that developers and brands will create are known as “channels” which can be thought of as “widgets”.
Dashboard will launch in mid-2008 in the United States on specific handsets however those details are not yet available. The LG VX8700 handset is the reference device that will be used for developing and testing Dashboard channels.
This looks like a great new opportunity for flashlite developers to have the ability to place content on-deck with an operator.
Hopefully now distribution networks such as App Store are available, developers in general will start to get a better route to the consumer, with a much better percentage return, as apposed to the 30 - 40% from traditional aggregators.
For more info on the process of setting up and running a channel, please visit : http://www.adobe.com/devnet/devices/verizon.html

via alessandro,
Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia is paying 264m euros ($410m; £209m) to buy out the other shareholders in handset software firm Symbian.
Nokia, which already owns 48% of the UK-based firm, intends to develop its software to compete with Google’s planned Android operating system.
For its part, Symbian said the takeover was “a fundamental step” in the establishment of the Symbian Foundation, which is expected to start operating in the first half of 2009.
The foundation will bring together Nokia, AT&T, LG, Motorola, NTT Docomo, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone in collaboration on a new, royalty-free open software platform for mobile phones.
This looks like great news for flashlite development,

I have just put a flv demo online for one of the new FL applications i have been working on.
It is in effect a mobile “channel” for a company called Stream that provide On Demand video via set-top boxes & a broadband connection in your home.
The mobile client allows you to log in and view Stream’s content on the move.
It is a completely dynamic menu system, updated via the server, which allows new content to be added on the fly.
The video is handled via Flash media server, and streamed directly to the handset.
The Demo application is connected to the internet by a o2 3G connection in this video.
view the demo here, (apologies for lack of sound)

hi all,
there is a great new article on the adobe M&D dev center , Working with Flash Lite 3 and Flash Media Server video written by Nick Hippe from Adobe.
In this article I’ll cover two scenarios for streaming Flash video from the Flash Media Server to Flash Lite 3. The first is the simplest possible example. In the second example, I’ll use script-based bandwidth detection to determine the bandwidth available to the device, and then stream the appropriate video based on that information.
This is a really cool article, and i found the bandwidth detection very useful.

- Support for h.264 codec
- Flash 9 content will play in FL3.1 as long as it is published as AS2. AS3 engine is not ported to FL3 yet.
Linux port is available from California Software Labs. Please email me for additional information.

Since my contract was up for renewal this month, i decided to get myself a ‘fun’ phone, so after looking around for a bit i went for the new LG KF700 touchscreen/slider handset.
After getting it home, and messing with it for about 5 mins i found an interesting menu (see below)

After a quick look, i could find nothing on the LG site mentioning flash lite at all. After copying across a number of test swfs, it looks like this phone is flashlite 2.x enabled by LG. As well as access to flash files, the phone also comes pre-installed with 5 fl animated wallpapers. Great!
The problem came when i tried to put on my own wallpapers. Although they would run in the standalone player on the handset, to be able to set the files as a wallpaper, you have to have them in a directory called ‘default SWF’. For some reason, LG seem to have made this folder unaccessable via their PC suite (which btw, also has serious issues when run on vista).
So, for some reason, although the phone supports fl wallpapers, it seems LG has decided to only let it support it’s pre installed selection. Not so great!
I would hazard a guess at saying the ui is made with flash, and the phone it’s self is nice to use (although the touchscreen is no where as responsive as that of the iphone). I really like the addition of the slide away keypad, and the jog wheel at the side is also a great touch. The combination of all 3 input methods makes the phone very easy to use, although it does take you a while to work out the best way to utilize all 3 together.
I have included a couple more pics below, as well as some comparisons for size with an n95 8gb.

Interesting article via Bill’s site, about a new new sony product that supports fl3 web browsing.
The mylo 2 has an enhanced web browser with Flash Lite 3 integrated to allow users to view YouTube videos and other rich, interactive web sites that require Flash support. Since Flash Lite 3 only supports SWF content that’s published as version 8 or lower, web sites that are published as Flash 9 such as Flex applications will not be displayed.
click here for the full article.
Looking forward to seeing this in the UK
